Prior to entering the world of wrestling, Layla worked as a dancer for Carnival Cruise Lines and the Miami Heat, and appeared in numerous music videos. She also made an appearance at the MTV Awards as a back-up dancer for Kanye West.

In 2006, Layla's personal trainer suggested she try out for that year's WWE Diva Search contest; she had been a casual wrestling fan as a child and went on to become one of the 8 finalists who appeared on the July 10th edition of RAW. On August 16, she was announced as the winner, earning a $250,000 cheque and a spot on the WWE roster.

Her first appearance as a Diva was put off until the SummerSlam pay-per-view, where she was confronted in the locker room by the other women and initiated (via being spanked in the shower). She became an official member of the Smackdown brand a week later.

In January 2007, Layla was drafted to ECW where she teamed up with Kelly Kelly and Brooke Adams to form the dance troupe known as Extreme Exposé and choreographed each routine herself. Months later, they entered into a strange partnership with The Miz, escorting him to the ring during his matches and giving him "private" dances. The group remained together until Kelly began showing affection for Balls Mahoney, much to the disgust of The Miz, Layla and Brooke. After Brooke was released from the company, Kelly and Layla began a long-running feud which saw Kelly one-up her rival on multiple occasions.

During the 2008 Draft, Layla was placed on the RAW roster for the first time, making her the first Diva Search winner to participate on all three brands. She entered a storyline with Jamie Noble, playing hard to get and resisting his advances. To prove his worthiness, Noble continuously made challenges to other wrestlers only to get squashed. After he defeated William Regal, Layla began to finally show an interest, only to turn on him and side with the 2008 King of the Ring himself.

The 2009 Draft saw Layla moved back to Smackdown, where she started. Although she has been appearing with Regal during the overseas tour, he is still a member of the RAW brand so the fate of their partnership is yet to be seen.
